  Global warming and pollution are serious problems that threaten the health of the planet and future generations. When one thinks of recycling aluminum soda cans are the first thing that usually comes to mind. While that is definitely a great way to recycle, we can incorporate recycling and reusing products in more areas of our lives. Think of the impact that we could have if every business, school, and home became more eco-friendly. We sometimes think that our eco-conscience can only be delegated to paper and metal products, but we can do so much more. Construction is one of the sectors of the economy that is beginning to integrate more eco-friendly practices. This includes the utilization of recycled products in the construction of new homes. Roofing

Another important element of a home is its roofing. The roofing is what allows a home to fight off the elements instead of eventually being destroyed by rain and snow. Asphalt shingles are a popular choice for roofing in many places in the US thanks to their durability and the ease of replacing them. Much like reclaimed wood, asphalt shingles can now simply be recycled and reused as opposed to disposing of them. Plastic roofing is another great option that can be made from recycled materials. Plastic roofing tiles are available in a wide array of designs and colors.

Framing

When building a home, the most important element of that construction is the house framing. Without that framing, the rest of the home will never be built out from that original structure. Typically, house framing is composed of large planks of wood. If you want to go for a more eco-friendly choice you have multiple options. Recently, “newspaper wood,” which is wood created from recycled newspaper, has become an option for some builders. You may also want to use reclaimed wood obtained from other buildings. Siding

Much like roofing, strong siding is also required to protect a home from the forces of nature. It too can be recycled as well. One of the most popular and durable forms of siding is vinyl siding. Vinyl is a form of plastic. Like other plastics, it can be melted down and recycled. There are also other recycled siding options you might want to consider including reclaimed wood siding, metal siding and adobe siding. Thankfully, construction companies are beginning to more towards greener and more sustainable business practices. Using recycled materials in the construction of new homes helps to decrease the negative impact on the environment.
