Romy Godwin ASP®, ASPM®, IAHSP® [email protected]   Dear Barb, Thank You!!! Thank you for offering such an amazing course. I am so happy that I took the ASPM® course for what I have learned is life changing for me. I thank you for everything you taught. I thank you for your beautiful words, for they reflect the beauty that you are and what is inside. You inspire me in so many ways, as a business woman, as a woman, and as a human being. Thank you for all the gifts and treats and for the graduation celebration. I will cherish the memories of our week together. Thank you. Love, Julia Horner ASPM®, IAHSP® [email protected]   Dear Barb, Whew, what a week we had during our ASPM® course. I was an ASP® that had not started my business and came with the desire of furthering my education for staging. My husband is a career military man and when he retires I plan to start my business. The ASPM® course was so good that I came home and have thoughts of starting it early and then when we move just move my business. Still thinking that decision over. The class was a full week as promised! I feel fully equipped to start my business. The class gives confidence in many areas; public speaking, cold calls, bids, consultations and of course gives you a team to lean on should you have any questions and need to call for help/thoughts/suggestions. The education you receive from Barb that’s not in the training manual was priceless. Our class was honored to get constructive suggestions from Barb. This education is priceless. Yes, we had many hours in class and working on homework, hours well spent toward our businesses. We had nine staying in one home and would I highly recommend this to others. The atmosphere was relaxed and we had time to work on homework together. The house mates had opportunity to bond even more by spending 24 hours a day together. We had a kitchen to have that midnight snack to help you make it thru the late hours of homework. The Club in the Country was a wonderful place to hold class. The food was wonderful and the staff was very friendly. I would agree that it is a life changing experience. I would consider myself a fairly positive person, but I would have to agree Barb takes it to whole new level and I returned a better person by just knowing her. I am blessed to have the opportunity to not only meet Barb, but 13 others that are now part of my family. Blessed, LaVonda Sullivan ASP®, IAHSP®, ASPM® [email protected]   My journey of becoming an ASPM with you. As an interior designer I have worked for many different companies since my studies. When I decided to start my own business, I wondered what kind of services I wanted to offer to my clients and how I can be different from the other designers in my district. We started to speak about Home Staging 3 years ago in Belgium. I was really interested by this great concept. In the meantime, my husband and I we were looking to buy a house. I visited a lot of houses and I realized how badly some houses were shown and how easily I could improve them. My interest in Home staging increased and I ordered Barb’s book to learn more about it. After that I applied for a grant and won it with the innovative concept of Home Staging (for Belgium). But that was not enough for me…I wanted more! So I decided to take a course. After much research on the net, I made the decision to take the best course available to me. This is how I arrived in Florida to take the ASP® course. Following this I wanted more for my business and for Home Staging in Belgium and the surrounding countries. That’s why I registered for the ASPM® course. I feel blessed to have the chance to have met and learn with Barb who was so impressive and so stimulating. And now I have the feeling that I hold all the cards to go further and higher in my business with my new ASPM® family. Yolande Pauwels Interior Design ASP®, ASPM [email protected]   Dearest Barb, As I reflect on my journey towards becoming an ASPM® I know it began as a young child working for my Father in his “Swap Shops” in the Ballard area of Washington. He would receive wonderful treasures through trading and selling and buying. My job was to dust and polish furnishings throughout the store. Often I would get to sit, lay, muse, and “Stage” the various pieces of furniture so that they would be more appealing to the customers. I was approximately 9 years old; I would also attend the big “Auction Sales” in a Ballard warehouse. It was awesome to be among all those huge pieces of wonderful treasures for sale, and the excitement of the auctioneer and the people. It was truly good times to be able to be there and help out by selling pop to the attendees. In high school I excelled in home economics – primarily sewing. My first entrepreneurial endeavor (after baby sitting of course!) was a home-based tailoring business. Albeit I was good, the level of perfectionism I sought to achieve in every seam was painful and more time consuming than I was willing to charge for … A few years later I began my on again, off again 20 year career in City government were I had many wonderful opportunities. I was the Charitable Campaign Coordinator, helping to train City employees how to put on fund raising events in their departments in order to raise funds for over 600 charities of the employees choices – each year we raised over half-a-million dollars. The excitement and challenge of buying and “dealing” for supplies to put on these events was admirable. I was also part of a team who coordinated events for employee recognition, annual training events, and employee birthdays and anniversaries. I was often sought out for my creativity and ability to shop on such a tight budget. I was told and encouraged I should begin my own business event business. I thought I was doing pretty well where I was … I had soon bought an older condo and began renovating from top-to-bottom – Staging as I went. I met my husband through a project and we soon found that he as the “mechanic” could turn my ideas into magic. Family, friends and neighbors were delighted, awed, and inspired by our combined efforts and results. In 2003 I took a layoff and was encouraged by friends who had seen your “Staging presentation” on TV that I should look into it. I was already busy “trying” to make a living at co-oping in various stores selling antiques, collectibles, gifts, and clothing. While it was great experience, it was really more of an expensive hobby. I attended an introductory course to Staging, taught by you, the great one! In the spring of 2004 and then the ASP® course in Seattle in 2004.   I was pretty elated at this “golden opportunity”, but didn’t realize it at the time. I continued to try to get more experience under my belt by “doing it on my own”, and soon turned back to familiar opportunities in administration as I was doing various levels of home preparations and Staging for family and friends for “free”, or for bartering. In 2007 after purchasing a beautiful home that still required a lot of TLC, I knew that in my heart I wanted to do this type of “work”. I wrestled with the idea of going to school for interior design, because there were no programs being taught within 3 hours of where I lived. With the recent passing of my husband I decided to sell the house. In making the preparations for the sell of the house, and to get top dollar, I was thankful to an ASP® accredited agent who helped me accomplish my goals. I knew that seeking my accreditation in Home Staging was something I needed and wanted to pursue. Thank you Barb for the incredibly gorgeous woman you are, both inside and out! And for your generosity in sharing this wonderful opportunity it is truly a golden opportunity of a lifetime. One I’ll be taking to Barcelona, Spain. With much love and admiration, Sheila Hougland, ASP®, ASPM®, IAHSP [email protected]
