Utilize Small Spaces: 4 Tips for Planning a Bathroom Renovation

Even though the bathroom is one of the smallest rooms in your home, it doesn’t mean that you can’t have a luxurious space to take a shower or bath or get dressed each day. Before completing your renovation project, you need to have a plan in place so that each person involved knows just what they are doing. Having a plan for the colors, designs, fixtures, and other details also makes it easier to shop for the things that you need for the project.  All about Time If you only have one bathroom in your home, then you need to plan your renovation project for a time when it’s not going to be busy with guests. You also need to think about how long the project will take to complete and if there is another bathroom nearby that you can use while the renovations are being completed. Set a date for the renovation to be completed, giving the information to those who will be working in the room so that they can stay on track.

Hiring the Right People

Unless you know how to replace a toilet, do tile work in the bathroom, or change light fixtures, then you’re going to need to hire the proper professionals who can get the work done. A plumber is one of the first people you should call as this is a room in your home that features several plumbing lines and water features. Other professionals you might want to hire include someone who can work with the flooring and an electrician.

What Do You Want?

Make a list of everything that you want to change in the bathroom. It could be new windows or a new door. You might want to change the tile on the floor or the tile on the walls. If you’re planning on replacing some of the larger components in the bathroom, such as the shower or the toilet, then you need to have a plan in place for these details so that each component can get replaced in succession. You don’t want to change the flooring before replacing the shower as this will just mess up the new floor.

Set a Budget

For some people, money is no object when it comes to remodeling. However, you still need to have a budget as you don’t want to get in debt by remodeling one room of your home. If you don’t have a lot of money to work with, there are a few simple ways that you can change the appearance of your bathroom without going broke.   Since the bathroom is smaller in size than other rooms, it’s usually a bit easier to renovate. However, there are a few details that require the attention of a professional who has worked in a bathroom before. Keep in mind that this project will give you a relaxing place to bathe and can increase your home’s value.   Emma is a freelance writer based out of Boston, MA.
